The 1st World Vintage Hockey Carnival is ready to be launched in beautiful Barbados during October 2012, one year after originally planned. The extra year, brought about by unavailability of grounds for our original dates, has given us the chance to put even better plans in place.

The World Vintage Hockey Carnival Team would like to invite “more mature” members, players and past players of your hockey club to attend this fantastic event.

The 1st World Vintage Hockey Carnival, with support from the Barbados Tourism Authority, is anticipated to attract hockey teams from AusĀtralia, New Zealand, Canada, United States of America, Cayman Islands, England, Ireland, South Africa, India, West Indies and Europe.

We are involved with the Barbados Hockey Federation and the Cockspur Old Gold Roosters Hockey team in establishing the 1st World Vintage Hockey Carnival to be played in Barbados between the 21st and 28th of October 2012. Ricky Clarke, founder of the well-known Cockspur Old Gold Rooters Hockey team is the Carnival Director. Ricky is a leading sports business operator on Barbados and has hosted many teams and groups visiting the island.

“I am looking forward to my involvement in establishing World Vintage Hockey on the playing calendar for those of us who can be deemed to be mature hockey players. Visitors coming to our beautiful island will enjoy not only competitive but fun hockey – they will also have the opportunity to experience our wonderful beaches, the chance to cruise the spectacular coastal waters, enjoy our local beverages and to party at any of our fun restaurants, bars and nightclubs or rum shacks.” Ricky Clarke, Carnival Director.

What is a “Vintage Hockey Carnival”?

The World Vintage Hockey Carnival will consist of 4 days of games at local sports fields. They will be played on alternate days, with rest days in between focused on local tours, shopping or simply relaxing on the Bajan beaches or enjoying the company of friends.

The Carnival is for hockey players over the age of 35 who wish to continue their playing careers in exotic hockey destinations. Hockey players of all agility and ability are welcome to enjoy competitive hockey and great fun on and off the field.

Vintage Hockey is designed for men’s teams, women’s teams and mixed teams. Teams are asked to grade themselves into one of three grades:

Social Semi-competitive Competitive

And to advise their approximate average age as one of the following:

35 to early 45 45 & over  Mixed.

Every effort is made to grade teams according to selected playing category and approximate average ages.

The FIH Laws of Hockey will apply with variations to suit the age and ability of participating teams.

In summary the Carnival can be the ultimate experience for an avid mature hockey player who, whilst never reaching representative status, can now ‘compete’ against and relax in the company of similar aged hockey people from all over the world in the amazing and exotic Caribbean island, Barbados.

Location, Location, Location

October in Barbados, what could be better? During the early morning hours of an average October day in Barbados, you can expect the temperature to be a delightful 81.7 degrees. Barbados is a wonderful destination and has excellent hockey facilities and tradition. The local hockey clubs are looking forward to welcoming teams from all parts of the world to enjoy a fantastic celebration of the great game of hockey in a tropical sports crazy nation.
